Our Story

Riversedge Racing Stable began with a single horse.  Fortuantely for founders - Robert Vargo and Norm Castiglione, it was a good one. Knights Covenant started its first season 'slowly' but picked up speed as that first year progressed - winning races - and proving that good breeding and good training could payoff.

Robert actually owned Knights Covenant when he first won the Alberta Derby and came in third, by a nose at the Canadian Derby.  A minor injury forced him to take some time off so Robert asked his friends, Norm and Margi Castiglione, to let him recuperate at their ranch near Okotoks, in Southern Alberta.  Before the next season began - they were partners and have never looked back!

The Future Looks Good

Today, Riversedge Racing is a leading member of the horse racing industry in Canada.

The stable has had horses competing at every racetrack in Canada and several in the United States.  Norm and Robert have developed an active horse breeding program and are constantly adding new talent to their stable.

Norm sits on the board of Horse Racing Alberta and The Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Alberta.

The stable now owns more than 80 horses . With a great staff of trainers, stable managers, grooms and others all sharing a love of horses and racing - the future for Riversedge - looks very good!

An Eye On The Media.....

The province has ponied up to keep Alberta’s horse racing industry on track.

Finance Minister Joe Ceci announced the decade-long deal Saturday at Century Downs race track north of Calgary, which will replace the current pact set to expire.

“This new 10-year commitment will continue to support an important economic and cultural piece of rural Alberta and the agricultural sector,” Ceci said.
